Uber has apparently decided what to do with its new $1.2 billion war chest. The taxi alternative service has slashed rates by 25% in at least 25 markets across the U.S. for what it calls a “limited time.” The resulting prices put the cost of Uber X, the company’s most basic service, anywhere from 25-57% below the price of a taxi depending on the city, with around 40% being the most common discount. Notably absent from the company’s price comparison blog posts is any mention of competitor Lyft. While the pink-mustached cars are doubtless still on Uber’s radar, it’s clear the company is targeting vehicles most often clad in yellow with its latest salvo.
