Lionel Messi remains the biggest global star left in the World Cup with the departure of Portugal and Cristiano Ronaldo. Messi and Ronaldo are forever linked. They are the two highest-paid players in the game by a good margin and the winners of the past six Ballon d’Or trophies given to the most valuable player in the sport (Messi has four versus two for Ronaldo). They are both goal scoring machines with Messi finding the back of the net 407 times in his professional career, including a record 91 goals in 2012.
