Apple's Entrance Into The Smart-Home Arena Is Another Ecosystem Jail We Don't Need

will announce its entry into the ‘smart-home’ industry at next week’s World Wide Developer conference, according to the Financial Times. This is both good and bad news. The tech giant will launch a new software platform that will be able to communicate with smart objects in your home and be controlled by an iPad or iPhone. There will also be a certification scheme that’s similar to Apple’s “made for iPhone” label that appears on headphones, speakers and other accessories. The good news is that this will spark off another rapid-growth tech race in a relatively undeveloped industry. Samsung and will be looking over their shoulders with their front facing smartphone cameras and watching Apple’s movements closely.
