Labor Market Data Prove Extended Unemployment Benefits Were Hurting The Recovery

Back in December and January there was a fierce political fight over continuing the federal emergency extended unemployment benefits that had allowed people to collect unemployment for as long as 99 weeks. Democrats predicted doom both for the people whose benefits would be cut off and for the economy if the extended benefits were not continued. Now, with six months of data to study, we can see that no such thing happened. In fact, the results have been quite positive.
