For Brazilian soccer fans, it was supposed to be their national team versus Argentina at the final of the 2014 FIFA World Cup this Sunday at the Maracana stadium in Rio de Janeiro. But then the Germany soccer machine stepped in and immediately wiped away their chances of seeing some of their most celebrated stars play a World Cup final on the lawn of what is arguably the world’s most iconic soccer stadium. For fans of Brazil, Germany’s victory turned what began as a huge celebration into a telenovela-like plot filled with heavy drama, old enemies and a quest to find a scapegoat.
