What is the most generous company in the United States? According to a new survey by The Chronicle of Philanthropy, New York-based aluminum giant Alcoa gave away the highest percentage of its profits, 12.1%, in 2013. In raw dollars, Alcoa’s $39 million in donations doesn’t come close to America’s biggest giver, Walmart, which gave away a total of $312 million. But Walmart is America’s biggest company by revenues, and if you look at its giving as a share of its profits, it only donated 1.3%. What’s more, cash giving at Walmart declined by 9% in 2013. Though Alcoa gave away the greatest percentage of its profits in the Chronicle’s survey, its 2013 giving was only up 1.3% from 2012.
