Amazon Launches File Sharing And Collaboration Tool

Finally the news that most commentators were expecting with Amazon Web Services’ (AWS) announcement that they’re taking on the not insignificant task of carving out a point of difference in the ultra-busy file sharing space. With companies like Box, Dropbox, Google and all lining up to push their own take of what solution users really need, it’s the turn of AWS to step up and announce Zocalo, their initial product. If nothing else it’s an interesting piece of news given that perhaps the best known player in the space, Dropbox, actually uses AWS to store its data – another example of AWS competing with its own ecosystem. First I’ll take a look at the product’s functionality and then give some broader thoughts.
